Week 22: PapayaAverage Size: 11 in, almost 1lb
The babies are starting to look like miniature newborns. Their lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and they are even developing tiny tooth buds beneath the gums. Their eyes have formed, but their irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers their bodies and the deep wrinkles on their skin, which they will sport until they add a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside the belly, their pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily.
Well, things are still going good!! I got sick this week, but not too bad...but a summer cold is just no fun!! I am starting to feel them here and there (have for the past 2 weeks)! Still no kicks, but definitely feel little taps here and there, almost like a goldfish in a plastic bag! Or slight swooshing (like my new word) sensations...almost like they are rolling over or something. I do have anterior placentas on both babies (placenta attached at the front of the uterus, so it acts as a cushion)..so my OB said I will probably feel kicks a little later than most. I am kind of sad about that, and hope to start to feel them soon (I am sure I will regret saying that when I have 8 limbs punching and kicking me in various places)!!
I am definitely getting bigger and have my moments of uncomfortableness...but really CAN'T complain...this has been the best pregnancy (although I don't really have much to compare to)...I am enjoying and loving every minute of it!!!
