Here is what the girls are up to this week....
They weigh almost 2 pounds (like the head of a cauliflower) and are about 14 1/2 inches long with her legs extended. They are sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing their eyes, and perhaps even sucking their fingers. With more brain tissue developing, their brains are very active now. While their lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if she were to be born now. I can chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements I may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments...
I can't believe I am entering my 3rd trimester! Time is starting to move faster now!! We can't wait to meet these little girls (although they need to stay put as long as possible). Well I have started to get some Braxton Hicks (BH) contractions which apparently are very normal at this stage in pregnancy as long as I don't get them excessively throughout the day (I usually only have 4-6 a day). They are very subtle and not what I thought they would feel like. Basically my belly just feels heavier than normal and gets harder for about 15-30 seconds...but I don't feel anything actually "contract and then relax again". I am making sure to drink plenty of water (I seriously think I may float away)...as that can lesson the amount of BH. Things are still going pretty good! I am getting bigger and bigger and feeling more and more uncomfortable, but babies are active and it is fun feeling them throughout the day!
